Winter in America is a great time to test your skills with a new adventure. From ice climbing in the southwestern gorge of Colorado to snowshoeing through the vineyard while pausing to practice yoga along the way.
Here are our 10 choices for the most unique winter adventures across the United States.
1. Snowga in Washington
Located right in the heart of the Cascade Mountains in Washington, Lake Chelan is a majestic waterfront destination with just three hours east of Seattle. While this area is known as a summer hotspot with its sparkling waters and spectacular mountains, it is also particularly winter when it turns into a snow-fairy wonderland. In January, Yogachelan offered a unique retreat called Snowga, an innovative combination of snowshoeing and yoga.
Participants in Snowga will have a tour of snowshoeing 2.5h through vineyards on Echo Ridge Trail, stopping along the way to pose yoga in the snow with stunning views of Lake Chelan. At the top, immerse yourself in the scenery with hot tea and delicious food at local markets of Bear Foods. The retreat is held on the 17th and 23rd during Winterfest of Lake Chelan, an annual festival with ice sculptures, wine tasting and even burning fires on the beach.
2. Snowkiting in Utah
Flying down the snowy slopes by wind is a unique winter adventure. And while many snowkite enthusiasts use a board or skateboard, all you really need to fly is a gas-powered kite and a desire for excitement. Slide down the slope in Utah snow and let the breeze blow you into the air. If you don’t know what to do, take a lesson at snowkiting Utah Kite Addiction school in Ogden Valley. This class is worthwhile even if you have tried this sport several times, as it also helps hone snowkiting skills safely.
